My name is Frank Wagner and I am the Lead Pastor at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church (HSLC) in Juno Beach, Florida. This summer was HSLC’s 24th year attending Camp Lutherock and we brought 29 youth. Personally, for me and my family, it was our 32nd year. I am contacting you because I believe you and your congregation share my passion for the ministries of Camp Lutherock.
Lutherock’s 62nd summer camp season has just ended with memories of stories, songs and friendships still fresh in everyone’s minds. Each year brings joy and a greater love of Christ to thousands of youth and adults, and our goal is for that number to continue to grow. In 2016, a panel gathered to address how to better attract and serve our guests. One approved strategy was the creation of a zipline in the area known as the Saddle. This zipline would be integrated with the existing ropes course and alpine tower to create a fun, memorable, and transforming experience for campers and guests. Trust and teamwork exercises on these challenge courses provide and an excellent setting for spiritual discussion and scriptural parallels. To build the structures, purchase the needed equipment, and fully train the staff, the three-year, $120,000 ZiptheRock fundraising campaign was formed.
In 2016, I kicked off the ZiptheRock campaign by riding my bicycle from Juno Beach, FL to Camp Lutherock (approximately 900 miles) stopping at churches to spread the word and increase support for a zipline. This March, I will repeat the 900-mile journey with ZiptheRock II. In the first two years, $80,000 has been raised, leaving $40,000 to go for this final year.
A $20,000 matching gift has been pledged cutting that level in half, but we still need your help in three key ways:
- First, Pray for Success and Safety. All actions are under God’s dominion and we ask for his blessing on a safe completion of the journey, and for all the wonderful friendships and blessed meetings that will occur during this time.
- Second, please help Spread the Message. Please help promote “Ziptherock” using social media and if possible, please link the ZiptheRock II web page on your church’s website and/or other social media channels.
- Finally, Rally your Congregation. I invite all the congregations that value Camp Lutherock to participate in this event. All donations will be matched through our generous donor, but we are also recruiting local ZiptheRock “heroes,” whom we hope will spearhead a matching gift in your local congregation so that any donation would be subsequently tripled.
I hope that you find this project as inspiring as I do and will help us complete this three-year journey. If before that time you have any questions or suggestions, please contact me direct at email@example.com or 561-373-0465. I’m excited to talk with you soon about ZiptheRock and hope to visit you on two wheels in March.
A life in Christ is wonderfully exciting!
